Tax Checklist for Businesses

Please answer all questions to the best of your ability and provide all accounting and tax documents pertaining to the current tax year. If any question does not apply to you, please write N/A next to the question. More issues and questions might arise during the tax preparation.

 

General information

  • Last 2 years income tax returns (Federal and State, if applicable) if you are a new client
  • If S corporation, we will need the S election acceptance letter from the IRS if you are a new client
  • If S corporation, we will need a copy of your stock basis from your previous accountant if you are a new client.
  • If S corporation, during last year, did you hold board meeting(s) and take meeting minutes? YES or NO. Please circle or highlight one answer. If no, we need to discuss.
  • If S corporation, did you take reasonable compensation from your S corporation? YES or NO. Please circle or highlight one answer. If no or not sure, we need to discuss.
  • All documents pertaining to the incorporation or organization of your business if you are a new client.
  • Did you commingle business and personal expenses? YES or NO. Please circle or highlight one answer. If yes or not sure, we need to discuss.
  • All W-2s and W-3 for the current year if applicable.
  • Authorization code received from the Franchise Tax Board if you are a California business.
  • Federal and State income tax payments made in or for the current year, if applicable.

Financial Statement Data Required – If no bookkeeping work is done by our firm

  • Current year and prior year Balance Sheet on accrual basis in Excel Format
  • Current year and prior year Profit & Loss Statements on accrual basis in Excel Format
  • Current year Trial Balance on accrual basis in Excel Format
  • Current year General Ledger on accrual basis in Excel Format
  • Depreciation Schedule if you are a new client.
  • Were all bank statements and credit card statements reconciled for the current year? YES or NO. Please circle or highlight one answer. If no or not sure, we need to discuss.
  • Did you file and submit all Forms 1099-MISC to all contractors who received more than $600 from you during the year? YES or NO. Please circle or highlight one answer. If no or not sure, we need to discuss.

 

Financial Statement Data Required – If bookkeeping work is to be done by our firm

  • Online access to your bank and credit card accounts for the direct linking of your online account(s) to the accounting software.
  • Online access to your payroll company in order to track salary on a monthly basis.
  • Lease or finance agreements for new business vehicles.
  • Any new notes that were signed during the year.
  • Do you need our assistance in filing Forms 1099-MISC by January 31? YES or NO. Please circle or highlight one answer. If yes or not sure, we need to discuss.
